Armand Merizon

A Grand Rapids painter who kept working from memory after losing his sight.

This artist's work is shown through the museum and artist links on this page while it remains under copyright or awaits a permission-cleared image.

Merizon was born in Kalamazoo and raised in Grand Rapids. He began painting at 10 and won a scholarship at 16 to an art school in Boston. He was a founding member of the Grand Valley Artists.

After macular degeneration took his central vision and color sense, he moved toward a more impressionistic style, and later painted from memory. Grand Valley State University hosts an online catalogue of his work.
