A Hungarian architect and sculptor whose carved overmantel remains a Cranbrook landmark.

This artist's work is shown through the museum and artist links on this page while it remains under copyright or awaits a permission-cleared image.

Maróti came to Cranbrook in early 1927 at the invitation of his longtime friend Eliel Saarinen, to help with sculptural ornamentation for Cranbrook School for Boys. His earlier work included sculpture for the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico.

His major Cranbrook work is The Gift of Knowledge, a carved limestone bas-relief overmantel in the Cranbrook Campus Library, designed in 1927 and completed by fall 1928. He died in Budapest in 1941.
