Jim Pallas

A Detroit artist who wired sculpture to respond to its surroundings long before that was common.

This artist's work is shown through the museum and artist links on this page while it remains under copyright or awaits a permission-cleared image.

Pallas was born in Detroit, moved to the Cass Corridor in 1959 and joined the faculty of Macomb County Community College in 1965. He moved from welded metal to electro-kinetic work using electronics and early computers.

His Century of Light stood downtown from 1980 until it was destroyed in 2006. The Detroit Institute of Arts holds Firefly: Portrait of the Artist with Cosmic Bubble.
