Mario Moore

A Detroit realist whose steady-eyed figures connect past and present.

This artist's work is shown through the museum and artist links on this page while it remains under copyright or awaits a permission-cleared image.

Moore is a Detroit native who lives and works in the city. He earned a BFA at the College for Creative Studies and an MFA in painting at the Yale School of Art.

His large figurative paintings link past social, economic and racial events to the present, using stories from his own life and those of friends and family. His subjects meet the viewer with a direct, steady gaze.

He has exhibited at the Charles H. Wright Museum, the Detroit Institute of Arts, and the Lewis Center for the Arts at Princeton, where he has also been on the faculty.
