Richard DeVore

Grotell's student and successor at Cranbrook, known for quiet vessels that resemble stone or bone.

This artist's work is shown through the museum and artist links on this page while it remains under copyright or awaits a permission-cleared image.

DeVore was born in Toledo and earned his MFA at Cranbrook in 1957 under Maija Grotell. He returned to teach in 1966 and headed the ceramics department until 1978.

His simple organic stoneware forms use dull glazes that evoke polished stones or sun-bleached bones. His work is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Detroit Institute of Arts.
