Stanley Miller was born in Fresno and grew up in Detroit, where he earned the nickname Mouse in grade school. He trained at the Detroit Society of Arts and Crafts and made his name on airbrushed T-shirts and monster designs for model kits.
With Alton Kelley he made psychedelic posters for San Francisco venues in the 1960s, and is credited with the skeleton-and-roses imagery tied to the Grateful Dead.
